Counsellor's Strand
The main beach, right in the village — sheltered, sandy and lifeguarded through the summer season. Safe for most swimmers and the obvious choice with kids. It faces east, so mornings are the sunny end of the day here.
Lady's Cove
A small cove tucked in beside the harbour — the locals' quick-dip spot, used year-round by the village's sea swimmers. There is always someone in, whatever the month.
Portally Cove
A quieter cove a few minutes west of the village, reached by a short walk down. Shingle and rock rather than open sand — worth it when the village beach is busy.
Woodstown Strand
A long, flat, gently-shelving strand on the estuary side — huge at low tide, good for long walks and small children paddling. Big tidal range, so check the tide before you plan the day around it.
The Copper Coast Coves
Keep driving west along the R675 and the Copper Coast opens up — a string of coves and beaches below the cliffs on one of the best coastal drives in the county. Best treated as a half-day loop from the village.
