Live music, all year
The music heart of the village is The Spinnaker Bar on the harbour: Friday and Saturday music nights run year-round — acoustic duos, full bands and trad sessions where the tunes build until the whole bar is in it. Summer adds sets on the harbour deck and BBQ nights; bank holidays get their own specials. The harbour has range, too — American bluegrass has been played on this waterfront for years, a tradition that suits a fishing village whose music travelled to Appalachia and came back. Current listings live on the Spinnaker's music page.
The sailing season
Waterford Harbour Sailing Club has called Dunmore East home since 1934 and counts around 250 members. Through the season it runs dinghy racing and keelboat events off the village, and in July and August its visiting-yacht pontoon fills with cruising families and racing crews from around the south and east coasts — the harbour at its liveliest, working trawlers at one end of the quay and yachts at the other.
The village year
- Spring — the kittiwakes return to the cliffs and the Doneraile walk comes into its own.
- Summer — lifeguards on Counsellor's Strand, sailing and kayaking off the harbour, music on the deck, the village at full tilt.
- Autumn — the crowds thin, the sea stays warm longest, and the specials boards are at their best.
- Winter — fires lit, sea swimmers still in at Lady's Cove, Christmas gatherings on the waterfront.
